I have pretty bad insomnia, so I finally managed to crash at around 4:30ish this morning...only to be woken up a bit after 5:00am to some strange rumbling/thumping sounds and a sensation like I was being shaken a bit. I chalked it up to my little brother banging around in his room and the edges of a dream getting the better of me, as that happens sometimes when I wake up.

I just woke up a few minutes ago after falling asleep again, and through my normal routine of checking Facebook, I discover that I wasn't dreaming after all--it was a 3.6 magnitude (mild) earthquake!

They're reporting in the news articles that the center of the earthquake was in Gaithersburg or Rockville, but it was actually in my town (Germantown) and only around 3 miles from me.

That is so cool! We don't normally get earthquakes here, so it was the first time I'd ever been in one. Pretty wild!

Dude! WTF?! There're never earthquakes in Maryland! (everything's okay though? no broken china or knocked-down pictures?)

Yeah, it was very mild by normal earthquake standards, yet the "biggest recorded" one here. So weird!
